In 2020, Friends began partnering with SoCal Adaptive Sports and Desert Recreation District to create more accessible outdoor opportunities for persons with physical and cognitive disabilities. The adaptive hiking program provides athletes and their families the opportunity to experience hiking in the magnificent lands of the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto National Monument as well as other hiking trails in the valley.
Dave and I volunteer to help guide these twice monthly hikes whenever we are in California. We’ve made friends with many of these athletes and their families. It’s a wonderful way to spend a Saturday mornings. Here are a few photos from the hikes we've completed.

What a lovely thing to do, guys. I used to help out at a little bit at a charity for persons with physical and cognitive disabilities and found it so rewarding. Your post made me think I should try to find another volunteering opportunity and go for it.
